The White Lion Inn was for many years the largest coaching inn in europe and would no doubt have witnessed
more than it's fair share of theatrical performances in the courtyard or the grounds. In fact with the strong historic
links to both David Garrick and William Shakespeare it is extrremely unlikely that plays were not performed right here in
our Great Hall.

And you can still see them to do this day. Every Thursday and Friday evening the building is transformed
into a unique theatrical venue where the Dark Arts Theatre Company tell terrifying tales and chill you to the very core with
their spine tingling performances.
Every production is based on the true stories that are linked to this magnificent building's history and
are a whole new interactive theatrical experience. From the moment that the 'guests' arrive they are whisked right
into the centre of an unnerving world from which they cannot escape until just thirty minutes before midnight. But as
the evening proceeds there is a dawning realisation that all is not quite what as it seems....
If the guests wish to survive the evening they will need to keep their wits about them as they piece together
the clues that reveal the terrifying truth about the story thatthey are witnessing unfold before them.
Taking place over three floors of this unusual and frankly sinister building in the heart of Stratford,
the guests are guided from room to room to be told the next section of the tale. Eerie lighting and smoke effects are
combined with a chilling sound track making the performances some of the most immersive theatrical experiences ever.
From the moment the guests arrive the performance is constant - three hours of supernatural and spine tingling
terror before the truly twisted climax. These are not productions for the faint hearted or those afraid of the dark
as a unique combination of theatrical performance, storytelling and scare attraction come together for your enjoyment.....
The Henley Street Theatre is located in what was formerly part of the famous White Lion Inn and by day is
the Museum of Witchcraft and Wizardology. This makes it unusual for several reasons.... First,
although housed in an extremely old building it is in fact the newest theatrical venue in Stratford upon Avon. Secondly,
and perhaps rather confusingly, as travelling players would have performed here through the centuries it also makes it the
oldest theatrical venue in Stratford as well!
Performances take place in various parts of the building and are a very intimate affair with a maximum audience size
of 20 (although the current show running on Friday Nights has a maximum of 13).
